If your organization qualifies for sales tax exemption, you can submit your exemption certificate directly through our website. Once approved, your account will be flagged as tax-exempt and future orders will automatically have sales tax removed at checkout.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 — Log In to Your Account
You must be logged in to submit a tax exemption application. Your exemption certificate will be linked directly to your customer account.
- If you don't have an account, create one here.
- If you already have an account, log in here.
After logging in you will be automatically returned to the Tax Exemption Application page.
Step 2 — Complete the Exemption Form
Navigate to the Tax Exemption Application page. The form is powered by ExempTax and will pre-fill your account information automatically.
- First time? Click Submit Certificates to fill out and generate your exemption certificate digitally.
- Already have a certificate? Click Upload Pre-Completed Certificate to upload your existing document.
Make sure your certificate includes:
- Your business name and address
- Tax ID / EIN number
- State of exemption
- Reason for exemption (resale, government, non-profit, etc.)
Step 3 — Submit for Review
Once you've completed and submitted the form, GFS will review and validate your certificate. This typically takes 1 business day.
Certificates are reviewed manually to ensure compliance with state tax regulations.
Step 4 — Receive Your Approval Email
You will receive an email notification with the status of your tax exempt approval. If your certificate is approved, your account will be updated automatically.
If there is an issue with your submission, the email will include details on what needs to be corrected.
Step 5 — Shop Tax-Free
Once approved, all future orders placed while logged into your account will automatically have sales tax removed at checkout. You do not need to resubmit your certificate for each order.
How to Access the Tax Exemption Application from Checkout
If you're already in the checkout process and notice sales tax is being applied:
- Look for the "Tax Exempt? Apply here" link below the tax line in your order summary.
- Clicking it will take you to the Tax Exemption Application page.
- Log in if prompted — you'll be returned to the form automatically.
